Good morning class! Today we're going to be learning about proportions in mathematics. But, before we dive into the textbook, let's start with a fun activity to get us in the mood.
We're going to be baking some cookies! Who doesn't love cookies, right? But, in order to make the perfect batch, we need to make sure we have the right proportions of each ingredient.
So, let's take a look at our recipe:
As you can see, we have different amounts of each ingredient that we need to measure out. But, how do we know how much of each ingredient to use? That's where proportions come in!
Proportions are used to compare the ratio between two or more quantities. In other words, proportions help us figure out how much of one thing we need in relation to another.
For example, if we want to make a double batch of cookies, we can use proportions to figure out how much of each ingredient we need.
Let's say we want to make twice the amount of cookies. How much of each ingredient do we need?
By using proportions, we can easily figure out how much of each ingredient we need to make a double batch of cookies.
So, now that we know how to use proportions, we can confidently bake our cookies and know that we're using the right amounts of each ingredient.
Mathematics is all around us, even in the kitchen. So, next time you're baking, remember to use proportions to make the perfect batch of cookies!
