Overview
This 30-minute lesson is designed for Grade 3 students (aged 7-8) studying French as a second language. The goal of the lesson is to introduce students to basic vocabulary and expressions related to common activities and objects.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
- Use basic French vocabulary to describe common activities and objects
- Understand and use basic French expressions in context
Materials Needed
- Whiteboard and markers
- Pictures of common objects (e.g. apple, book, chair, etc.)
- Flashcards with French vocabulary words
- Worksheets with simple French phrases
Procedure
- Introduction (5 minutes)
- Greet students in French and review previous lesson if applicable
- Introduce the topic of the lesson, "French Vocabulary for Common Activities and Objects"
- Vocabulary (10 minutes)
- Use flashcards to introduce new French vocabulary words related to common activities and objects, such as "manger" for eating and "livre" for book
- Give examples of how the words can be used in simple sentences
- Have students repeat the words and sentences aloud
- Practice (10 minutes)
- Show pictures of common objects and have students identify them in French
- Give students worksheets with simple French phrases and have them match the phrases with the corresponding pictures
- Conversation (5 minutes)
- Have a brief conversation with students in French based on the new vocabulary and phrases taught in the lesson
- Wrap-up (5 minutes)
- Review new vocabulary and expressions learned in the lesson
- Assign homework to reinforce new concepts taught in the lesson
Assessment
Students' understanding of new vocabulary and phrases can be assessed through class participation, as well as their completion of worksheets and homework assignments.
