To kick off our lesson on family vocabulary, we’re going to embark on a unique storytelling journey! Each of you is going to create a mini-family story that introduces your family members.
Let’s start by creating a simple family tree diagram. Draw a tree on your paper or digitally. At the top, write your name in a big bubble. From your name, draw branches to represent your family members.
As you fill in your family tree, write down the English vocabulary words next to each family member. For example:
Once you've completed your family tree, take a couple of minutes to prepare a short introduction about your family. Speak about each member and include their relation to you using the vocabulary you’ve just written down. Use the following sentence starters to help you:
If you want to add more details or descriptions about each family member (like their hobbies or special traits), feel free to write those on sticky notes and place them around your family tree.
After sharing, we’ll all gather as a class and celebrate our diverse families. This activity will help us learn our family vocabulary in a fun and personal way. Plus, it's a great opportunity to practice speaking in front of your classmates!
Get ready to bring your family stories to life, and let’s enjoy learning about family vocabulary together!
