Academic Subject: Music
Grade Level: Year/Grade 3 (Age 7-8)
Lesson Length: 30 minutes

By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to understand and identify the treble clef, as well as know the notes and their corresponding positions on the staff.
Materials:
- Whiteboard and marker
- Musical Staff Chart with Treble Clef
- Quiz worksheet
- Examples of sheet music with treble clef
Procedure:
-
Introduction (5 minutes)
- Start off the lesson by asking the students if they have ever seen a symbol that looks like a fancy "S" before in music. This symbol is called the treble clef, and it helps us identify the high notes in a musical piece.
- Show the students an example of the treble clef and explain that it is also known as the G clef, because it circles around the note G on the staff.
- Pass out the musical staff chart with treble clef to each student.
-
Notes on the Treble Clef (10 minutes)
- Draw a treble clef on the whiteboard and demonstrate how it circles around the G line on the staff.
- Show the students the different notes that can be found on the treble clef, starting with G and counting up to A, B, C, D, E, F. Using the musical staff chart, point out where each note is placed on the staff.
- Ask the students to identify the notes on the staff and the corresponding letter names.
-
Practice (10 minutes)
- Hand out examples of sheet music with treble clef and ask the students to identify the notes on the staff.
- Walk around the classroom to assist students who may need help identifying the notes.
-
Review and Assessment (5 minutes)
- Pass out the quiz worksheet to the students to complete. The worksheet asks the students to identify the notes on the staff and name them correctly.
- Review the worksheet as a group and grade them accordingly.
Assessment:
- The students will be assessed through their completion of the quiz worksheet, where they will need to identify the notes on the staff correctly and correspond them with the correct letter name.
