Objective

Introduction (5 Minutes)
- Engage the Students: Ask students if they have ever touched something hot or cold and describe how it felt.
- Define Thermal Energy: Explain that thermal energy is the energy that comes from the temperature of matter.
- Discuss the Importance: Briefly mention why understanding thermal energy transfer is important in everyday life (cooking, heating homes, etc.).

- Define conduction as the transfer of thermal energy through direct contact.
- Example: Touching a hot metal rod.

- Define convection as the transfer of thermal energy through fluids (liquids and gases) caused by the movement of the fluid itself.
- Example: Boiling water where hot water rises and cold water sinks.

- Define radiation as the transfer of energy through electromagnetic waves (not needing a medium).
- Example: Feeling the warmth of the sun.

- Group Activity: Divide the class into small groups and distribute materials (ice cubes, hot water, metal and non-metal rods).
- Conduction Experiment:
- Have students place one end of a metal rod and a plastic rod in hot water.
- Observe and record any temperature changes at the other end of the rods after a few minutes.
- Discuss Findings:
- Have each group share their observations.
