Ice Breaker Activity: "Two Truths and a Fib"

Objective

To foster a warm and inclusive classroom environment where students can get to know each other while practicing communication skills.

Instructions

  1. Preparation
Begin by explaining the activity to the class. Students will each share three statements about themselves: two truths and one fib (a lie). The challenge for the rest of the class is to guess which statement is the fib.

  2. Setting Up

    • Divide the class into small groups of 4-5 students to facilitate participation.
    • Give them five minutes to think of their statements and write them down on a piece of paper or index card.
  3. Sharing

    • Once the time is up, have one representative from each group share their three statements with the whole class.
    • After sharing, allow the rest of the class to guess which statement is the fib by a show of hands or by calling out their guesses.
  4. Class Discussion
    After all groups have shared:

    • Discuss how it felt to share personal information.
    • Highlight surprising truths and the creativity in the fibs.
  5. Wrap Up
Conclude the lesson by explaining the importance of understanding each other's backgrounds and experiences. Encourage students to reflect on how diverse their classroom is and how that diversity enriches their learning experience.

Notes

This ice breaker not only engages students but also sets a positive tone for the rest of the lesson, encouraging openness and collaboration.
