Objective: Today, we will embark on an exciting journey through the art of improvisation! Our goal is to explore creativity, spontaneity, and teamwork, all while having fun.
To kick off our improvisation lesson, we'll start with an engaging Improv Warm-Up Activity that sets the stage for creativity and connection as a class.
Instructions:
Pair Up: Find a partner and stand about an arm's length apart.
Choose a Statue: Think of a famous statue or a character from a story. It could be anything from The Thinker to a superhero!
Formation: One partner will become the "sculptor" and the other the "statue." The sculptor will gently pose their partner into the character or statue of their choice, using a few simple gestures a light touch—think about expressing what the statue might feel or convey.
Freeze: Once the statue is in position, the sculptor will step back to observe their creation while everyone else stands still in silence for 30 seconds, imagining the story behind their chosen character or statue.
Swap Roles: After the time is up, switch roles and repeat the activity with a new statue or character.
After the warm-up, gather the class in a circle. Ask them to share which character or statue they chose and why. This will lead into a discussion about the elements of improvisation, such as spontaneity, acceptance, and creativity.
Let’s unleash your imaginative potential and dive into the world of improvisational drama! Get ready for some games that will challenge your creativity, build your confidence on stage, and strengthen team collaboration. The stage is yours!
