Hello, little mathematicians! 🎉 Today, we are going to celebrate Thanksgiving with a fun and exciting math adventure! Are you ready to join me on this journey? Let’s get started!
Have a big, colorful picture of a Thanksgiving dinner displayed in the classroom. Show images of a turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie. Ask the children:
Give each student a paper plate. Ask them to choose their favorite food pictures and "serve" themselves portions of these foods by counting out the correct number of pretend food items or drawing them on their plates.
As they work, walk around and engage with them through simple math questions:
Once everyone has created their Thanksgiving feast on their plates or drawings, gather the children in a circle. Each child can share what they “served” on their plate.
Wrap up the lesson by highlighting how math is all around us, even at Thanksgiving dinner! Thank them for participating and encouraging their counting skills.
🦃 Let’s give thanks not only for our delicious food but also for the fun we had learning together today!
To extend the lesson, consider a follow-up activity where they can create a Thanksgiving math book! Each page could show a different food item and involve counting, addition, or even simple subtraction related to their feast.
🎉 Happy Thanksgiving, little learners!
