Anticipatory Set

To get students excited about the lesson, the teacher will ask the students if they have ever looked up at the sky and seen a triangular shape. The teacher will ask the students to share what they think a triangle is and what they know about triangles.

Direct Instruction

The teacher will introduce the three types of triangles:

  1. Equilateral Triangle: A triangle with all sides and angles equal.
  2. Isosceles Triangle: A triangle with two equal sides and two equal angles.
  3. Scalene Triangle: A triangle with no equal sides or angles.

The teacher will explain the unique characteristics of each type of triangle. The teacher will demonstrate how to measure the sides and angles of each type of triangle.

Guided Practice

The teacher will give each student a cut-out triangle and a ruler. The teacher will guide the students in measuring the sides and angles of each triangle. The teacher will ask each student to identify which type of triangle they have based on the measurements.

Independent Practice

The teacher will give each student a compass and a ruler. The teacher will ask the students to construct a given type of triangle with specific measurements.

Closure

The teacher will review the different types of triangles and their unique characteristics. The teacher will ask the students to share what they learned about triangles. The teacher will answer any questions the students may have.

Assessment

The teacher will assess the students through observation during guided and independent practice. The teacher will also ask each student to verbally explain the unique characteristics of each type of triangle. The teacher will review the measurements of each student's constructed triangle to assess their understanding of the lesson.
