Objectives
Students will be able to:
- Identify different pastries and breads found in a boulangerie
- Order and purchase items from a bakery in French
- Understand culturally appropriate vocabulary and phrases when visiting a boulangerie
Materials
- Pictures of common items found in a boulangerie
- Video clip of a boulangerie scene with dialogue
- Whiteboard and markers
Warm-up (5 minutes)
- Introduce the topic of a boulangerie and ask students if they have ever visited one.
- Show pictures of pastries and breads found in a boulangerie and ask students to name them.
- Review basic French vocabulary pertaining to food and drinks.
Presentation (10 minutes)
- Show a video clip of a boulangerie scene with dialogue.
- Pause the video at various points to ask students questions about what they observe, such as:
- What is the person ordering?
- How much does it cost?
- How do they say "thank you" in French?
- Discuss culturally appropriate phrases and behavior when visiting a boulangerie.
Practice (10 minutes)
- Have students pair up and take turns pretending to be a customer and a server at a boulangerie.
- Encourage students to use appropriate vocabulary and phrases in French.
- Walk around the class and provide feedback and assistance to students as needed.
Wrap-up (5 minutes)
- Have students share their experiences pretending to be a customer or server at a boulangerie.
- Ask for volunteers to role-play in front of the class.
- Review key vocabulary and phrases for ordering and purchasing food in French.
Assessment
Formatively assess students during the practice activity and provide feedback. Summatively assess their ability to identify pastries and breads, order and purchase items, and use culturally appropriate vocabulary and phrases during their role-play.
