Introduction (5 Minutes)
- Greeting and Settle Down: Start the lesson by greeting the children and inviting them to sit in a circle.
- Introduction to Letters: Show the children the alphabet flashcards, holding each one up as you say the letter out loud. Encourage the children to repeat after you.
Direct Instruction (10 Minutes)
- Letter Recognition Activity: Use the large chart paper with the alphabet. Point to each letter and ask the children to say the letter name and its sound.
- For example, “This is 'A'. What sound does 'A' make?”
- Incorporating Sounds: Show objects or pictures that start with each letter. For example, for 'B', show a picture of a ball and say “B is for Ball.” Encourage kids to name the objects and reinforce the letter-sound connection.
Group Activity (10 Minutes)
- Letter Hunt: Divide the children into small groups and give each group a set of letters on flashcards.
- Searching for Letters: Ask them to find items in the classroom or pictures that match the letters on their cards.
- Sharing Time: After the hunt, each group can share their findings with the class, reinforcing letter recognition.
Creative Activity (5 Minutes)
- Letter Craft: Provide markers or crayons and chart paper. Each child picks their favorite letter and decorates it with drawings of objects that start with that letter.
- Encourage creativity and remind them to say the letter and its sound while they work.
Closure (5 Minutes)
- Review: Gather the children back in a circle. Review the letters learned today by asking, “What letter did we learn today?”
- Storytime: Read a short story that incorporates letters and sounds. Emphasize the letters while reading.
