Imagine this: You're a detective in a world where numbers go missing, and it's your job to find them! Tonight, a notorious thief has swapped the key to a treasure chest with an algebraic riddle. To crack the case and retrieve the treasure, you must solve the riddle.
Gather your students in a circle or at their desks and dim the lights slightly for a dramatic effect. Hand out an extravagant, hand-drawn treasure map (can be printed or displayed on a screen) filled with quirky symbols representing the treasure chest, clues, and obstacles.
Introduce the treasure map by saying: "Welcome, brave detectives! Tonight, you face the challenge of the Missing Number. To find the treasure, you must unlock the mystery through algebra. But beware! Only those who can decode the algebraic expressions found along the map’s path will advance!"
Show the first clue, represented by an algebraic expression, such as:

Ask students to work together to solve for ( x ). As soon as they find the missing number, they earn the next set of clues leading to locations on the treasure map.
