Welcome, young explorers! Today, we are going on a magical adventure where we will discover the secrets of addition. Are you excited? Let's put on our imagination hats and journey into the wondrous world of numbers!
Once upon a time, in a land of colorful creatures called Numberland, there lived two cheerful little creatures named Addy and Buddy. Addy was the number 2, and Buddy was the number 3. They loved to play together and share their toys.
One sunny day, Addy said, "Let’s add our toys together and find out how many we have!"
Buddy's eyes sparkled with excitement, "Yes! But how do we do that?"
First, let’s help Addy and Buddy count their toys!
Let’s count them together!
How many toys does Addy have?
(Hold up 2 fingers)
"2!" shouted the class.
How many toys does Buddy have?
(Hold up 3 fingers)
"3!" we all cheered!
Now, let’s put our toys together! We will find out how many toys they have in total by adding them!
2 + 3 = ?
Let’s count them one by one:
Start with Addy’s 2 balls:
1 - 2 (Hold up 2 fingers)
Now, let’s count Buddy’s stars:
3 - 4 - 5 (Hold up 3 more fingers)
How many do we have now?
(Encourage the students to count along aloud)
"5!" they all shouted!
Addy and Buddy were so happy to find out that when they added their toys together, they had 5 toys in total!
Now, we’ve learned that when we add 2 + 3 = 5, we can make magical discoveries with numbers!
Now, let’s make our own magical addition problems! Grab your crayons and paper, and draw your favorite toys. We will practice addition by adding how many toys you have with a friend’s toys next to yours!
Are you ready for our next magical adventure in addition? Let’s go, young mathematicians!
