Introduction to Emotions

"Good morning, everyone! Today, we’re going to talk about something really important: emotions. Does anyone know what emotions are? That’s right! Emotions are the feelings we have. Sometimes, we feel happy, sad, angry, or scared. It’s very important to recognize our feelings because it helps us to understand ourselves better and communicate with each other. Look at this emotions chart I have here. Can anyone point to an emotion they feel today? Great job! Remember, it's perfectly okay to feel different emotions!"

Explain the Feelings Wheel

"Now, let’s take a closer look at this feelings wheel. This wheel shows us many different emotions. For example, in the middle, we have 'happy.' But look at all the feelings around it: 'joyful,' 'excited,' 'hopeful'—so many! Each of these feelings has a different expression. When we feel happy, we might smile, and when we feel sad, we might frown. It's important to know how to express these feelings. Does anyone have a favorite emotion on this wheel? Why do you like that one? Awesome! Now, let's get ready for our next activity."

Feelings Wheel Activity

"Alright, everyone! It's time for a fun activity with our feelings wheel! I want you to take your coloring materials and color in your feelings wheel. Think about how you feel today and choose some colors that represent those feelings. You might want to color in 'happy' with a bright yellow or 'sad' with blue. As you color, I want you to think about what made you feel this way. Take about six minutes to finish your coloring, and remember to express how you feel today!"

Reflection and Closure

"Time’s up, friends! Let’s take a moment to look at our finished feelings wheels. I’d love to hear about the different colors you chose. Who colored 'happy' yellow? Who used blue for 'sad'? Great choices, everyone! This is a wonderful way for us to talk about and understand our feelings. Remember, it’s okay to feel what you feel! Because emotions are natural, they help us connect with one another. For homework, I want you to take your feelings wheel home. Throughout the week, pay attention to how you feel and share these feelings with your family when you can. Well done today, everyone!"
