Introduce young learners to the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. through music and movement.
Begin by inviting all the children to gather in a circle on the floor. Make sure they are comfortable and can see each other.
With a warm smile, say:
“Today we are going to learn about a very special man named Martin Luther King Jr. He wanted everyone to be friends and to share kindness. He believed in peace, and he loved music! Music helps us feel happy and connected!”
Take out the drum or tambourine.

Play the soft, uplifting song. As the music plays, share:

After the music has played for a minute, encourage the children to stand up and move!
“Now, let’s dance! Move your bodies to the music and show how we can spread kindness – maybe a fun twirl for a friend or a gentle wave to someone we love!”
Once the music stops, invite the children to share their thoughts:
“What did you feel while we listened and danced?”
Encourage them to express feelings of happiness and togetherness.
Wrap up by reminding them of the lesson's key concept:
“Just like Martin Luther King Jr. used his voice to spread kindness and love, we can share our kindness through music and friendship every day!”
Now that the children are warmed up and engaged, smoothly transition to a related activity, such as creating simple musical instruments or drawing pictures of how they can show kindness!
