Begin the lesson by presenting a mystery box to the class. This box can be decorated colorfully or painted, creating an air of curiosity. Inside the box, place various props or items that can spark the imagination—these could include a chef's hat, a toy sword, a pair of sunglasses, a feather boa, or even a simple cardboard puppet.
Gather Around: Have students sit in a circle on the floor around the mystery box. The excitement of the unknown will capture their attention.
Reveal the Box: Slowly open the box, allowing students to peek inside. Build anticipation by asking them what they think is inside. What ideas do they have?
Select an Item: Encourage a volunteer to pick an item from the box. Once they choose an item, ask them to think about what character that item can represent. For example:
Create a Short Scene: Once an item is chosen, the whole class can help brainstorm what the character might say or do, prompting the volunteer to come up with a short role play scenario using the item. Ask questions to encourage critical thinking:
Role Play Time! Allow the chosen student to enact their character's mini-scene, while the rest of the class can contribute by giving suggestions or acting as side characters. Encourage excitement and creativity!
After the role plays, lead a short discussion about how role playing helps us understand different perspectives and emotions. Emphasize the fun and spontaneity of acting out different roles, and explain that today’s lesson will dive deeper into the art of role play in drama.
