Objective: To introduce young students to the concept of independence and celebrate the independence of Guyana.

Materials:

Introduction:

"Good morning, preschoolers! Today we are going on an adventure to celebrate the independence of our friend's country, Guyana! Can anyone show me where Guyana is on this map?"

Body:

"Guyana is a beautiful country that gained its independence on May 26, 1966. That means that the people of Guyana wanted to have their own country and make their own decisions without anyone else telling them what to do."

"We can celebrate their independence by playing music and dancing like they do in Guyana. Let's each pick an instrument and make some noise!"

"Now let's take a look at the Guyanese flag. It has five colors - green, yellow, white, black, and red. Each of these colors has a special meaning. The green represents the land, yellow represents the sunshine, white represents water, black represents the strength of the people, and red represents the blood shed for liberation."

"Let's also take a look at some pictures of Guyanese landmarks such as Kaieteur Falls and the St. George's Cathedral. These are important places that represent the rich history and culture of Guyana."

"We can also read books about independence and freedom to understand why gaining independence was so important for Guyana."

Conclusion:

"Today we learned about independence and celebrated the independence of Guyana. Let's remember to celebrate and respect the independence of all countries, and always stand up for what we believe in."
