Materials Needed
- Musical instruments such as drums, shakers, and tambourines
- Visual aids (e.g. posters, videos)
- Music player and speakers
- Whiteboard and markers
Introduction (5 minutes)
- Greet the students, introduce the topic of steady beat, and explain its importance in music.
- Ask the students if they have heard the term "beat" before, and if they know what it means.
Lesson Body (20 minutes)
Explaining Steady Beat (10 minutes)
- Use visual aids to demonstrate the concept of steady beat, such as a metronome or a bouncing ball.
- Explain that steady beat is the continuous and consistent pulse or rhythm in music.
- Show examples of songs with a steady beat, such as nursery rhymes or pop songs, and ask students to clap or tap along with the beat.
Practicing Steady Beat (10 minutes)
- Distribute musical instruments such as drums, shakers, and tambourines to the students.
- Play a song with a steady beat, and ask the students to play along with the beat using their instruments.
- Encourage students to experiment with different rhythms within the steady beat, and to play with varying dynamics (e.g. loud vs. soft).
Conclusion (5 minutes)
- Ask students to mimic a steady beat using body percussion (e.g. clapping, stomping), and try playing along with a song using their body percussion.
- Review the concept of steady beat and ask the students what they have learned.
- Thank the students for their participation and encourage them to continue practicing steady beat in their daily lives.
Assessment
Assess student participation and understanding by observing their ability to maintain a steady beat using instruments and body percussion. Provide feedback and support to students who may need additional assistance.
