Students will learn the key differences between MLA and APA formatting styles and how to properly format a research paper in both styles.
Begin the lesson by asking students if they have ever written a research paper. Discuss the importance of proper formatting in academic writing. Explain that today they will learn about two of the most commonly used formats: MLA (Modern Language Association) and APA (American Psychological Association).
Divide the students into small groups and provide them with excerpts from research papers in both MLA and APA formats. Each group should identify at least three differences between the two formats based on the provided excerpts and share their findings with the class.
Summarize the key points of the lesson. Remind the students that understanding these formats is critical for their academic success and will prepare them for future writing tasks.
Bring both formatted papers to the next class.
