Lesson Introduction: Character Study

Welcome, Explorers!

Today, we are going to embark on an exciting adventure into the world of characters! But before we dive in, I have a fun challenge for you.

The Mystery Character Game

Objective:

To get us warmed up, we’ll play a game called The Mystery Character Game! This will help us think about characters and their traits before we start our reading.

How to Play:

  1. Choose a Character:

    • I need everyone to think of a character from a book you’ve read, a movie you love, or even a video game you enjoy.
  2. Mysterious Clues:

    • I will ask for 3 clues about your character. But here’s the twist: You cannot use the character's name!
    • For example, if you chose Harry Potter, you might say:
      • “I wear round glasses.”
      • “I have a scar on my forehead.”
      • “I’m the chosen one.”
  3. Sharing Time:

    • Once I call on you, share your clues with the class. We’ll work together to guess who your character is!
  4. Discussion:

    • After we guess, we’ll talk about what traits and qualities made that character unique. What can we learn from them?

Why This Matters:

Understanding characters is key to becoming better readers. It helps us connect with stories on a deeper level and gives us insight into their decisions and challenges.

Ready, Set, Go!

Let’s use our detective skills and have some fun getting to know our favorite characters better! Who’s excited? 🎉
