To introduce the concept of 'Coasts' by captivating and engaging students in a fun and exciting way!
The teacher walks into the classroom holding a bottle of sand and a conch shell
Teacher: Good morning class! Today, we are going on a magical journey. And what better way to kickstart our journey than with sand and the sound of waves! Can you hear them?(plays the sound of waves on a speaker)
As the students listen to the sound of waves, the teacher opens the bottle of sand and lets them take a sniff
Teacher: Do you smell the ocean? Can you feel the sand between your toes?
Teacher: Ok, let's play a little game! I'm going to describe different words and I want you to guess what they have in common.
The teacher puts up a slide on the board with different words
Teacher: Ready? The words are: Cliffs, Dunes, Waves, Beaches, Oceans
Student: Coasts!
Teacher: Exactly! These words are all different parts of coasts.
Teacher: Now that we know what coasts are, let's discuss what we will cover in our class. We will learn about the different types of coasts, how they are formed, and what animals and plants call these coasts their homes.
Teacher: I hope you are excited to learn more about coasts! Get ready for an exciting journey full of surprises, adventures, and most importantly, learning.
The teacher picks up the conch shell and blows it
Teacher: The magic of coasts awaits us! Let's begin.
Before we end, let me give you a little homework. I want you to go home and find a picture of a coastline, mark the different components of the coast, and come back tomorrow to share it with the class.
Class: Yay!
