Procedure
1. Importance of lighting in photography (10 minutes)
Introduce the topic by showing printed photo samples of well-lit and poorly-lit photos and ask the students to identify the differences.
Explain that lighting plays a significant role in creating mood, highlighting texture, adding depth, and conveying emotions in a photograph.
Discuss the different types of light sources (e.g. natural, artificial, soft, hard) and how each affects the image.
2. Types of lighting techniques (20 minutes)
Discuss the common lighting techniques used in photography, including three-point lighting, high key lighting, low key lighting, and backlighting.
Demonstrate each technique and show printed photo samples to illustrate.

Allow students to practice lighting techniques using a model or fellow student as a subject.
