Welcome to our sensory adventure, little learners! Today, we're going to embark on an exciting journey where we explore the incredible world around us using our five senses: sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell! Are you ready? Let's jump right in!
To engage children’s curiosity and excitement about exploring their senses.
Introduction: Gather the children in a circle around the mystery box. Tell them you have a special surprise that needs their detective skills. Explain that today, we will be using our senses to discover what’s inside the box!
Sensory Description: Ask the children what they think “senses” means. Write down their ideas on the board. Help them remember the five senses by asking questions:
Mystery Box Reveal: Invite children to take turns reaching into the mystery box (without looking!) and pulling out an item. Encourage them to use their senses to describe what they feel, smell, and hear (if applicable).
Discussion: After everyone has had a turn, gather the group to discuss their findings. Ask questions like:
Creative Expression: After the discussion, provide the children with paper and crayons to draw their favorite sensory item. This allows them to express what they experienced through art.
Wrap up the lesson by summarising the importance of our senses in learning about the world around us. Remind the children that the way they explore and experience their environment is unique and special.
This engaging sensory lesson not only stimulates children’s curiosity but also encourages discussion and creativity, aligning perfectly with the Australian Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) outcomes, particularly around children becoming confident and involved learners.
Ready to explore? Let’s use our senses every day! 🌟
