Today, we are going on a fun adventure where we will explore nonfiction books! Nonfiction books are special because they tell us real facts about our world. They can teach us about animals, places, people, and so much more!
To kick off our lesson, let’s play a game called "Fact or Fiction!" Here’s how it works:
Gather Everyone: Ask the students to sit in a circle.
Introduce an Object: Hold up a simple object related to a nonfiction topic, like a toy dinosaur, a globe, or a plant.
Ask a Question: Say, “Is this toy dinosaur real or pretend?” Give the students a moment to think.
Have a Discussion: After they answer, explain whether it’s real (nonfiction) or pretend (fiction). For the dinosaur, you might say, “Dinosaurs were real animals that lived a long time ago. Would you like to learn more about them?”
After the game, let your students know that today, we will read sections from a nonfiction book about dinosaurs (or another chosen topic). Let them know they will discover exciting facts, like what dinosaurs ate and how big they were!
Now that we are buzzing with curiosity, let’s open our books and start our exploration into the world of nonfiction! Remember, nonfiction helps us learn about the real world in a fun way!
This introduction will grab the students' attention and create excitement around the topic of nonfiction, setting the stage for an engaging reading lesson!
