Good morning, amazing second graders! 🌟 Today, we are going to embark on a fun adventure to learn about something very special that helps us make our classroom a wonderful place for everyone. Our topic is DEI — which stands for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
To kick off our lesson, let’s begin with a delightful story called "The Magic Garden."
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful garden filled with all sorts of colorful flowers. There were tall sunflowers, tiny daisies, and fragrant roses. Each flower was unique and special in its own way.
One day, a wise old bee flew into the garden and noticed that while the flowers were different, they were all trying to grow together. Some flowers felt sad because they thought they weren’t as pretty or tall as the others. The wise bee decided to help.
“Every flower here is important,” said the bee. “Just like you, they all bring something special to the garden! When we celebrate each flower's uniqueness, our garden becomes even more beautiful.”
What did the bee mean when it said every flower is important?
Can you think of ways we can celebrate what makes each of us special in our classroom?
Why is it important for everyone to feel included?
Now it’s your turn! Grab some paper and crayons. Draw a flower that represents YOU! Think about your favorite colors, hobbies, and what makes you special.
Once you finish, we’ll share our flowers and talk about how we can celebrate our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion just like the flowers in the garden!
I can’t wait to see your amazing creations! Remember, just like the flowers in "The Magic Garden," every one of you adds beauty to our classroom. Let's make sure that everyone feels included and celebrated every day!
Now, let’s jump right into our fun activity! 🌈
