Lesson Introduction: Graphing Fun!

Welcome to Graphing Adventure!

G’day, Year 1! Today, we're going on a special adventure into the world of graphing. But before we dive in, let’s warm up our minds with a fun activity!

What's Your Favourite?

To kick things off, we’re going to collect some important information! We all have different things we love, right? So, let’s find out what our favourite fruit is!

Step 1: Fruit Choices

  1. Apples 🍏
  2. Bananas 🍌
  3. Oranges 🍊
  4. Strawberries 🍓

Step 2: Making a Class Graph

Instructions:

  1. Grab Your Fruit Card: I want each of you to come up and grab a card that represents your favourite fruit from the basket (there will be cards with pictures of all the fruits).

  2. Join the Fruit Line: Once you have your card, line up in front of the board according to your favourite fruit. If you like oranges, stand next to the orange card!

  3. Count & Graph It: As you line up, I will write down how many of you chose each fruit on our big class graph. We’ll use tallies (|) to represent each choice.

Step 3: Let’s Talk About It!

Once we have our graph, we’ll look at it together and discuss:

Why Graphing Is Fun!

Graphing helps us see information in a clear and colourful way! By the end of this lesson, you’ll be able to create your own graph and understand how to read them. Let’s get started with some delicious data!

So, who’s excited? Let’s find out which fruit will be crowned our class favourite! 🍏🍌🍊🍓
