Welcome to a World of Numbers!
As the chilly winter melts away and the vibrant colors of spring emerge, everything around us begins to bloom and grow. Just like the flowers and trees are awakening, today, we are going to awaken our math skills!
Imagine you are a gardener who wants to turn a patch of land into a beautiful flower garden. But here’s the twist! To plant your flowers, you need to solve some math problems first! Each problem you solve will provide you with the information you need to grow your dream garden.
Activity 1: Counting Blooms
Activity 2: Solve for Seeds
Next, let’s say you want to plant 4 different types of flowers: tulips, daisies, roses, and sunflowers. For each type, you need to solve the following problems to determine how many seeds to plant!
Tulips: If you plant 3 rows of tulips with 5 seeds in each row, how many tulip seeds will you plant?
Daisies: You have 20 daisy seeds and want to plant them in groups of 4. How many groups will you have?
Roses: If each rose plant requires 2 feet of space and you have a 12-foot garden bed for roses, how many rose plants can you fit?
Sunflowers: If you have 8 sunflower seeds and you plant them in pairs, how many pairs will you have?
After students finish the problems, they can share their findings with a partner, discussing how math helped them plan their garden.
Final Reflection:
With spring in the air and math at our fingertips, we’re ready to bloom into confident learners!
