Lesson script

Introduction to Instruments

"Hello, friend! Today, we're going to go on an exciting adventure into the world of music! Our lesson is all about different musical instruments. I have some cool instruments here with me. Can you see them? (Point to the instruments.) Does anyone recognize any of these?

Let's take a look and listen to what makes each one special!"

Listening Activity

"Now, we're going to listen to some different musical instruments. I'm going to play some sounds, and I want you to listen closely. When you hear the sound, think about what kind of instrument is making that sound. Ready? Let's begin!"

(Play the audio recordings one by one, giving the student time to think after each sound.)

"Great job listening! What did you hear? Can you tell me which instruments you think made those sounds?"

Instrument Exploration

"Wow, you did an awesome job with listening! Now it’s time for some hands-on fun! I want you to explore these instruments. You can pick one, or you can try them all. As you play each instrument, listen to the sounds they make. What do you think about them? Do you like the sound?

Go ahead and play!"

(Allow the student time to explore, encouraging them to express themselves through music.)

Printable Card Activity

"That was so much fun! Now, I have something special for you. These are instrument exploration cards that we’re going to fill out together.

(Distribute the cards and markers/crayons.)

On the card, you can draw your favorite instrument from today. You’ll also write or tell me one thing you learned about that instrument.

Take your time to fill it out. I can't wait to see what you create!"

Homework Assignment

"Now, we’re almost finished! I have a little homework for you. I want you to think about your favorite instrument and draw it on a piece of paper at home. You don't have to bring it back to school unless you want to show me, okay? Just have fun with it!"

Collecting or Checking Cards

"Okay! Let’s take a few minutes to look at your instrument exploration cards.

(Pause while you check the cards.)

Wow, I see so many creative drawings and great thoughts here! You really listened well and explored the instruments.

(Provide feedback based on their card.)

Does anyone want to share what they wrote or drew on their card? I’d love to hear about it!"

Homework

  1. What is your favorite musical instrument? Draw a picture of it on a separate sheet of paper.

  2. Write down two things you learned about the instrument you drew.

  3. Listen to a recording of a musical instrument (you can use a music app or website). Can you identify which instrument it is? Write its name and describe what it sounds like.

  4. Choose one instrument from our lesson today. What do you like most about its sound? Write a sentence explaining your answer.

  5. Research one interesting fact about a musical instrument that we did not cover in class. Write it down.

  6. If you could play any instrument in the world, which one would you choose and why? Write a short paragraph explaining your choice.

  7. Think about the instruments we explored in class. Can you list three different families of instruments (like strings, percussion, etc.)?
