Objectives:

• To introduce and familiarize students with the present continuous tense
• To enable students to identify and use present continuous correctly in sentences
• To encourage students to use present continuous in their daily communication

Materials Needed:

• Whiteboard and markers
• Printed worksheets
• Pictures or flashcards (optional)

Procedure:

Introduction (5 minutes)

• Begin by asking students if they know what is meant by "tense" in English.
• Explain that there are different tenses in English and we use them to indicate time.
• Introduce the present continuous tense as a way of indicating actions that are currently happening or in progress.
• Write some example sentences on the board and ask students to identify the tense used.

Explanation (10 minutes)

• Using the examples on the board, explain the structure of the present continuous tense.
• Explain that it consists of a present form of 'to be' (am, is, are) followed by a verb- ing (e.g. am singing, is dancing, are playing).
• Provide more examples of present continuous sentences and ask students to identify the tense used.

Practice (10 minutes)

• Distribute worksheets containing various sentences in past, present and future tenses, including present continuous.
• In pairs, have students identify and underline the present continuous sentences.
• Check the answers together with the class.

Application (5 minutes)

• Give students a few minutes to orally create their own examples of present continuous sentences.
• Ask some students to share their sentences with the class.

Homework (10 minutes)

• Instruct students to complete the worksheet given to them in class.
• Encourage them to use their creativity to make their own present continuous sentences.
• Collect the homework next lesson and check answers.

Assessment:

• The worksheet given out in class will be checked for accuracy and understanding.
• Participation in class discussions and ability to identify present continuous sentences will be assessed informally.
