Let's Explore Shapes!

Introduction to Our Shape Adventure!

Objective:

Today, we’re going to embark on a colorful journey to discover shapes all around us! By the end of our lesson, you will be able to recognize different shapes and even create your own shape masterpiece!

Kickoff Activity: Shape Scavenger Hunt

What You Need:

How to Start:

  1. Gather the Class: Bring the children together in a circle on the carpet. Excitement is in the air as we prepare for our shape adventure!

  2. Introduce the Shapes: Show the children the colored paper cutouts.

    • Circle: "Look! This is a circle! It’s round, just like a moon or a pizza!"
    • Square: "And here we have a square! It has four equal sides, like a box!"
    • Triangle: "This is a triangle! It has three corners, like a slice of pizza!"
    • Rectangle: "Lastly, this is a rectangle! It has two long sides and two shorter sides, like a door!"
  3. Explain the Scavenger Hunt: Let the children know that we are going on a shape scavenger hunt around the classroom or playground!

    • “Let’s see how many shapes we can find! When you find a shape, bring it back to our circle and we will put it in our basket.”
  4. Shape Search: Allow the children to explore and find items in the classroom or outdoor area that match the shapes you introduced. Encourage teamwork and communication.

  5. Share & Create: Once the scavenger hunt is complete, return to the carpet.

    • Ask each child to share one shape they found and where they found it.
    • As a group, draw or color a giant shape collage on the blank drawing sheet using crayons or markers to represent the shapes discovered.
