Dress Up:
First, let's put on our safari hats! Everyone gets a chance to wear a hat as we prepare for our adventure. If you have binoculars, grab those too!
Introduce the Theme:
Gather the children in a circle and explain: “Today, we are going to find sounds hidden in the jungle! Can you listen carefully to what I say, and find the animals that match the sounds?”
Animal Sounds Game:
Start by making animal sounds (e.g., a lion's roar or an elephant's trumpet) and ask the children, "What animals do you hear?!" This engages their listening skills and sets the tone for learning about sounds.
Sound and Animal Connection:
Hold up the picture card of an animal, say it out loud, and emphasize the first sound. For example, with the 'A' for Alligator, say, “Alllligator! What sound do you hear at the start?”
Act it Out:
Invite the children to mimic the animal and say the letter sound together. They can stretch their arms like wings for an 'F' sound for a flamingo or stomp like a bear for 'B'.
At the end of the session, gather everyone to share their favorite animal and its sound. Let them cheer for each other as they showcase their new letter sound friends!
Give each child a small animal sticker that corresponds with a letter sound they learned. Encourage them to think about the sound every time they see their sticker.
