• A small box or bag
• 10 small numbers written on pieces of paper (for example: 3, 12, 45, 65, 99, 150, 175, 225, 300)
• A large number line chart (or draw one on the board)

How to Begin:

1. Welcome and Gather: Start by welcoming your students with enthusiasm! Gather them around the Mystery Number Box.

2. Introduce the Activity: Explain that inside this mysterious box are some secret numbers. Today, they will embark on a number adventure to uncover their placements on our number line!

3. The First Surprise: Pull a number from the box without revealing it to the students. Hold it close to your chest with a playful smile.

4. Guessing Game: Tell the students you have a mysterious number, and they will take turns guessing what that number is! But here’s the twist: instead of saying the number, they must guess where it belongs on the number line.

   • For example, if the number is 65, a student might say, "I think it goes between 60 and 70!"

5. Reveal the Number: Once they’ve made a few guesses, reveal the number! Place it on the number line together as a class.

6. Discuss the Placement: Ask students why they think the number belongs there. Encourage them to talk about tens and hundreds to deepen their understanding of number placement.
