Lesson Starter: Te llevas bien con tus profes?

Objective:

To engage students in a discussion about their relationships with teachers, enhancing their conversational skills in Spanish while exploring the cultural significance of these relationships.

Introduction (5 minutes)

Activity: "Pass the Ball" Icebreaker

  1. Materials Needed: A soft ball or any small, easy-to-pass object.

  2. How It Works:

    • Students sit in a circle.
    • Explain that they will pass the ball around the circle while music plays. When the music stops, the person holding the ball must answer a question in Spanish related to the topic.
    • Prepare a few questions beforehand to initiate discussion, such as:
      • ¿Cuál es tu profesor(a) favorito(a)? (Who is your favourite teacher?)
      • ¿Por qué es importante llevarse bien con los profesores? (Why is it important to get along with teachers?)
      • Describe a vez que tuviste un malentendido con un profesor(a). (Describe a time you had a misunderstanding with a teacher.)
  3. Execution:

    • Begin the music and allow students to pass the ball.
    • When the music stops, the student with the ball answers one of the previously prepared questions. Encourage them to elaborate on their answers, fostering a natural flow of conversation.
    • After they respond, they can pass the ball to another student, keeping the activity dynamic.

Conclusion of the Activity:

As you bring the icebreaker to a close, emphasise that getting along with teachers can create a more positive and productive learning environment, setting the tone for the rest of the lesson where students will explore ways to improve these relationships in Spanish.
