Welcome, little explorers! Today, we are going on a shapes adventure! We will discover the amazing world of 3-D shapes! Have you ever noticed how some things around us are not flat but have depth? That’s right! They have height, width, and depth, making them three-dimensional!
To start our adventure, we're going on a Shape Safari!
Preparation: Gather a variety of 3-D shapes from around the classroom or home. You can include a sphere (like a ball), cube (like a dice), cylinder (like a soup can), and cone (like an ice cream cone). If you can, bring these shapes or pictures of them!
Activity:
After our Shape Hunt, let’s gather and sit in a circle. Here, we’ll create a fun Shape Chant together!
Chant Example:
(Hold up a shape as you chant)
“Hey there, cube, so strong and stout,
With six flat faces, let’s give a shout!
Sphere so round, rolling all around,
In the shape of a ball, we’ve found you abound!
Cylinder, tall, not flat at all,
Like a can of soup, so big, let’s call!
Cone so pointy, ice cream on top,
Let’s all shout out, ‘Hip-Hop, Hop!’”
Now that we have had our Shape Safari and created our Shape Chant, we can talk about what we learned.
Remember, shapes are everywhere, and learning about them can be a great adventure! Let’s keep looking for and talking about these amazing 3-D shapes throughout our day!
