Science Lesson Introduction: Living and Non-Living Things

Welcome to the World of Life!

Good morning, class! Today, we are going on a special adventure to explore a fascinating topic in our science journey: Living and Non-Living Things. Are you ready to discover what makes things alive and what doesn't?

A Fun Question to Start

Let's kick off our lesson with a fun question! Look around the classroom and point to three things you think are alive and three things that are not alive.

A Little Story

I have a story to share with you! Imagine you're a tiny explorer in a huge jungle full of trees, animals, and colorful flowers. As you walk along a path, you see a monkey swinging from the branches (that's a living thing!), but next to it is a big rock resting on the ground (that's a non-living thing!).

As we continue our lesson today, we will learn more about these two groups—what makes something a living thing and what defines a non-living thing.

A Quick Activity

Before we dive deeper, I have a small challenge for you! I will show you some pictures, and you need to decide if each item is living or non-living. Are you ready? Let’s have some fun and see how many you can get right!

Transition into the Lesson

Now that we've warmed up our brains and excited our imaginations, let’s begin our journey into understanding living and non-living things in more detail!

Learning Objectives

By the end of today’s lesson, you will be able to:

  1. Identify characteristics of living things.
  2. Recognise different non-living things.
  3. Distinguish between living and non-living items in your environment.

Let’s get started!
