Materials Needed


Introduction (5 minutes)

  1. Greeting and Introduction
    Begin by welcoming the students and introducing the topic of sportsmanship.
    Ask the class, "What do you think sportsmanship means?"

  2. Discussion Prompt
    Allow students to share their thoughts. Write key ideas on the whiteboard.


Direct Instruction (10 minutes)

  1. Define Sportsmanship
    Explain what sportsmanship is:

    • The ability to play fair, show respect toward teammates and opponents, and graciously accept victory or defeat.
  2. Examples of Sportsmanship
    Provide examples of both good and bad sportsmanship:

    • Good Sportsmanship: Helping a fallen teammate, congratulating the winner, shaking hands after the game.
    • Bad Sportsmanship: Cheating, arguing with officials, being rude to opponents.
  3. Why is Sportsmanship Important?
    Discuss how good sportsmanship promotes teamwork, respect, and a positive environment in sports and everyday life.


Group Activity (10 minutes)

    Divide students into small groups of 4-5. Assign each group a short scenario (provide a few sample scenarios that illustrate both good and bad sportsmanship).
