Hello, Year 1 students! Today, we are going to embark on an exciting adventure in the magical world of Mathematics! We will be learning about Additive Strategies, which will help us become super number ninjas!
Imagine you are going on a treasure hunt in a jungle filled with numbers. In this jungle, there are friendly creatures who need our help to find their lost treasures. Each treasure comes in a special pack that contains the number of items represented by two or more smaller packs.
Let’s meet our first friendly creature, Ella the Elephant! Ella has 3 bananas, and she wants to find 2 more bananas to enjoy her tasty snack.
To solve Ella's banana problem, we can use our Additive Strategy! This means we will add the bananas she has (3) to the bananas she wants (2).
Let the students respond and engage them in the sum calculation.
Now, it's your turn!
Are you ready to become addition superheroes? Let’s dive into the Number Jungle and help our new friends!
By starting this lesson with a story and an engaging problem, we’ll excite the students and prepare them to learn about additive strategies actively. Let’s make numbers fun and meaningful as we work together to solve these delightful puzzles!
