Students will learn about Mother’s Day through a short reading activity, discussion, and creative expression.
10 Minutes
Begin the lesson by discussing the significance of Mother's Day. Ask students:
Read the following short story aloud to the class:
A Special Day for Moms
Once a year, we celebrate Mother's Day, a special time to show our love for our moms. On this day, children make cards and give flowers to their mothers. Some kids even cook breakfast in bed! Moms love to hear "I love you" and feel appreciated for all they do. Let's remember to thank our moms every day, but especially on Mother's Day!
Ask the students questions about the story:
Give each student a piece of paper and crayons. Prompt them to draw a picture of something special they would like to do for their mom on Mother’s Day. This could be giving her flowers, making a card, or cooking a meal.
Create a Mother’s Day card for your mom at home. Write a sentence telling her why you love her.
Encourage students to present their drawings and share what they wrote in their cards during the next class.
