Objective: Today, we're going to explore what a passion project is and how we can turn our interests into exciting learning experiences!
To kick off our lesson, let's start with a fun activity called the Magic Box of Interests. Here's how it works:
Gather in a Circle: Students will sit in a circle on the carpet.
Pass the Box: I'll start by passing around a colorful box (you can use any box you have!). Inside, there will be various items representing different hobbies and interests, like a toy dinosaur for paleontology, a paintbrush for art, a soccer ball for sports, and a book for reading.
Share Your Passion: When you receive the box, you'll pull out an item, show it to the class, and share something about it! You can tell us why you like that hobby, what you've learned about it, or if there’s a cool story related to it. If you don’t have a favorite hobby yet, that’s okay! Just say what you think you might like to explore.
Get Inspired: After everyone has had a turn, we'll discuss how these interests could turn into passion projects. A passion project is something you care deeply about and want to learn more about. It can also be something that allows you to be creative and share your talents!
Once we finish with the Magic Box, we will dive deeper into the world of passion projects:
Define a Passion Project: We’ll talk about how passion projects can vary from science experiments to art installations, writing stories, or even creating a small business!
Brainstorm Ideas: In groups, we’ll brainstorm what each of you might want to explore. Don't forget to think about what excites you the most!
Set Goals: Lastly, I will guide you on how to create a simple plan for your passion project. What do you need to begin? What steps should you take?
