Lesson Outline
Introduction (5 minutes)
Begin by gathering the children in a circle. Ask them what their favorite season is and why. Guide the discussion towards spring and highlight that it is a time of change in weather.
Discussion (10 minutes)
- Show the picture cards of different spring weather types.
- Sunny: Discuss what a sunny day feels like and activities we can do (e.g., playing outside).
- Rainy: Talk about the sound of rain and why it is important for plants. Use the small umbrella and raincoat to show how to stay dry.
- Windy: Explain what a windy day looks like, and if possible, demonstrate with a paper or fabric that can flutter in the wind.
Ask questions to engage the children, such as:
- “What do you wear on a rainy day?”
- “How does the wind feel on your face?”
Outdoor Activity (10 minutes)
Take the class outside to observe the weather.
- Have them stand still for a minute and listen to sounds around them.
- Ask them to feel if it's warm or cool, and check if it's windy.
- Encourage them to look for signs of spring, like blooming flowers or new leaves on trees.
Craft Activity (5 minutes)
Back in the classroom, have the children create a simple weather chart to show what kind of weather they observed outside.
- Provide them with crayons and paper to draw their favorite type of spring weather.
Review (5 minutes)
Gather the children back in a circle and let them share their drawings. Discuss what they learned about spring weather. Reinforce key points:
- “What do we wear when it's sunny?”
- “Why is rain important for plants?”
Homework Assignment
For homework, the children can do the following activities with their parents:
-
Go outside and observe the weather for one day. Write down or draw a picture of what the weather was like.
- Sample Answer: “It was sunny and I saw flowers blooming.”
-
Find three things in nature that show it is spring (like flowers, baby animals, or green leaves).
- Sample Answer: “I saw a butterfly, yellow daffodils, and a baby bird.”
Conclusion
Thank the children for their participation in today’s lesson about spring weather. Remind them to pay attention to the weather each day and share their findings during the next class.
Images Needed
- The image of a rainy day with children wearing raincoats and jumping in puddles {The image of children wearing colorful raincoats jumping in puddles with raindrops falling from the sky.}
- The image of various spring flowers blooming in a garden {The image of a vibrant garden filled with blooming flowers like tulips and daisies under the spring sun.}
By engaging in this lesson, preschoolers will explore and understand the basic aspects of spring weather while enjoying fun activities.
