Welcome to our exciting lesson on problem solving! Today, we’re embarking on a thrilling adventure that invites you to become a detective in a quest for solutions. Are you ready to put on your thinking cap and dive into the world of creative problem-solving? Let’s go!
Imagine this: You and your friends are explorers on a quest to find a hidden treasure in the mystical land of “Brainwood.” The treasure is said to be locked away in a secret cave, and the map to this cave has been mixed up with other treasures. Your mission is to solve a series of problems to unveil the location of this elusive treasure!
Divide the class into small teams of 4-5 students. Each team will work together to solve different problems leading to clues about the treasure’s location.
Provide each team with a Problem Clue Card that presents them with a unique problem or challenge. Here are a few examples:
Clue 1: The Riddle of the Valley “I have keys but open no locks. I have space, but no room. You can enter, but you can’t go outside. What am I?”
Clue 2: The Mystery of the Numbers “I am a two-digit number. The sum of my digits is 10, and I am greater than 50. What number am I?”
Clue 3: The Maze of Choices “You have 3 paths to take. One leads to the treasure, one leads to a silly distraction, and another leads to a dead end. List three questions you would ask to determine the right path!”
Teams will brainstorm, discuss, and use their problem-solving skills to decode their clues. Encourage them to:
Once a team has solved their problem, they will prepare a brief presentation to share their thought process and solution with the class. They can even act out a mini skit if they choose!
After all teams have presented, come together to reveal that the true treasure isn’t just the solutions they found but the skills they built in working together, thinking critically, and solving problems.
By the end of this lesson, students will not only have fun and engage with each other but also understand the importance of problem-solving in their daily lives and future adventures!
Let the treasure hunt begin! 🗺️💎
