Welcome to the World of Doubles!

Introduction: The Magic of Numbers

Kia ora, tamariki! Today, we're going to explore the magical world of doubles in mathematics. What do you think that means? Let's find out together!

Start with a Fun Story

Imagine you have a lovely garden, and every time you water it, the flowers double! 🌼💧 If you started with 1 flower, after watering it, how many flowers do you think you would have? Let's find out!

Storytime:

Encourage the students to guess the next numbers!

Activity: Doubling Flowers

Now it's your turn to be magical mathematicians! Grab your double flower cards. Each card starts with a number of flowers, and your job is to find out how many flowers we would have after doubling.

Instructions:

  1. (Show cards with numbers 1-10): On each card, there will be a number of flowers (1, 2, 3, etc).
  2. Double It: As a class, let’s say the number on the card and then shout out the double!
    • For example: If you see 3 flowers, the answer when we double it is 6 flowers!

Wrap-Up

By the end of our lesson today, you will have discovered the secret behind doubling numbers up to 20. Remember, every time we double, we are multiplying by 2!

Let’s get ready to delve deeper into our fun number adventure and see how many doubles we can create together! Are you excited to become a doubling expert? I sure am!
