Good morning, curious mathematicians! Today, we are going to embark on an exciting adventure in the world of numbers. Have you ever wondered why some numbers look bigger or smaller than others? Well, that’s because of something called place value!
To kick off our lesson, we’ll start with a fun story. Picture this:
Once upon a time in Mathland, all the numbers lined up for a big parade. Each number had a special job depending on where they stood in line.
In the front, there were the teens, like 10, 11, 12, and so on. They shouted, "We’re the big guys! We start the big numbers!"
Next came the big numbers, like 20, 30, even 100, dancing and waving. They said, “We are the ones with the tens and hundreds!”
And at the very end of the line were the tiny numbers like 1, 2, and 3, getting ready to join the big leagues today!
Let’s bring the Number Parade to life! Here’s what we’re going to do:

By the end of our adventure, you’ll understand why place value is so important and how it helps numbers stand in their special spots. Are you all ready to join the Number Parade? Let’s shine a spotlight on place value together!
