Today, we’re going to embark on a magical adventure together! Our focus will be on reading and writing, and we will use our imagination to create a wonderful story.
Invite the children to sit in a cozy circle on the carpet. Dim the lights slightly to create a warm atmosphere, and hold up a big, colorful storybook.
Start with a fun question:
Begin reading the story aloud, using different voices for characters to make it engaging. Pause occasionally to ask questions:
After finishing the story, explain that they will create their own magical story!
Hand out blank pages or story templates and colorful crayons or markers. Encourage the children to draw a picture of their magical friend and write a sentence or two about their adventure.
After they finish their drawings and writings, have each child share their story with the group.
Gather everyone back in the circle and celebrate their creativity. You might say:
You could even compile their stories into a class book! It could be titled “Our Magical Adventures” to keep the excitement alive.
This engaging and imaginative start to your lesson on reading and writing will help to inspire young children and foster their creativity!
