To spark creativity and imagination in students as we begin a unit on story writing.
Welcome, young storytellers! Today, we are going to embark on an exciting journey into the world of story writing. But first, let’s warm up our imaginations with a fun activity called "Story Starter Surprise!"
Collect the Students: Gather the students in a circle on the floor or in their chairs.
Introduce the Activity: Explain that every great story has to start somewhere. Sometimes, the best stories come from unexpected ideas! Today, we will use a surprise story starter to inspire our own tales.
The Box of Surprises: Show them the box or bag filled with colorful slips of paper. Each slip has a unique story starter written on it. Here are some examples:
Choose a Starter: One at a time, invite students to pick a slip from the box/bag. They will read their story starter aloud to the class.
Time to Write: After everyone has shared, give them 10-15 minutes (or whatever fits best into your class schedule) to create a short story using the starter they picked. Encourage them to build on the idea and let their imagination run wild!
After the writing time is up, invite some students to share their stories with the class. Highlight the creativity and uniqueness of each story.
This activity not only helps to kick off our story writing lesson with excitement but also sets a positive tone for creative expression. Students will leave the lesson feeling inspired and ready to dive deeper into the art of storytelling!
So, are you ready to unleash your imagination? Let’s get started and see where our creativity takes us!
