Lesson Structure
Introduction (5 minutes)

- Write responses on the whiteboard to engage students and create a fun atmosphere.
- Introduce the topic of food and discuss why it is essential for our health.
Activity 1: Food Groups (10 minutes)
- Present the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating poster.
- Explain the five food groups:
- Fruits
- Vegetables
- Grains
- Proteins
- Dairy
- Show picture cards for each food group, asking students to classify them into the correct categories.
- Discuss the benefits of each food group—for example:
- Fruits provide vitamins and are good for our skin.
- Vegetables help us grow strong and healthy.
- Grains are our main source of energy.
Activity 2: Balanced Plate (10 minutes)
- Divide students into small groups and provide them with craft materials.
- Instruct each group to create their “Balanced Plate” using the food items discussed.
- Encourage them to include at least one food item from each food group.
- Once completed, have each group present their plate to the class, explaining why they chose each item.
Conclusion (5 minutes)
