7 | Wrap-Up Activity | 2 | Recap the sports vocabulary learned. Encourage students to think of one new sport they would like to explore further in Italian. |
Ask students to write a short paragraph about their favourite sport in Italian, using the vocabulary learned in class. Collect the homework during the next lesson for feedback without students presenting in front of the class.
"Good morning, everyone! Oggi parleremo dello sport! (Today we will talk about sports!) I want you all to think about your favourite sports for a moment. Now, I am going to introduce some vocabulary related to sports in Italian. Let’s look at these images together."
(Show images or gestures for sports like football, basketball, tennis, etc.)
“I will say the name of each sport in Italian, and I want you to repeat after me. Ready?
Great job! Now, whenever you hear these words, I want you to think about the sport and maybe a fun fact about it."
"Now, let’s get into groups of four. I want each of you to discuss your favourite sports. Use the Italian vocabulary we just learned! Think about why you like these sports, and if you play any of them or watch them on TV. You have five minutes. Go!"
(Monitor the groups and offer support as needed.)
"Alright, everyone, I hope you had an engaging discussion! Now, I am going to hand out some printable cards.
(Distribute the cards.)
"Here’s what I want you to do: on these cards, you will write down the sports vocabulary we just discussed, and also reflect on your favourite sports. You’ll fill these out as we go along."
"Now it’s time for an activity that involves listening! I’m going to play an audio clip of sports commentary. While you listen, I want you to pay close attention and write down any familiar words you hear.
(Play the audio clip.)
"Okay, take a moment to look at what you wrote down. Did you hear any of the sports vocabulary we learned earlier?"
"Let’s take this opportunity to fill in your printable cards! Based on the discussion and the listening activity, write down as many words as you can. Also, think of any additional reflections you might want to add about the sports you discussed in your groups. You have five minutes to work on this. Ready? Go!”
"Okay, time’s up! I would like to check a few of your cards to see how you've done. I’ll collect some randomly. Please pass your cards to the front!"
(Collect or have a quick chat with a few students about their cards.)
“As we come to the end of our lesson, let’s quickly recap what we’ve learned today. Can anyone remind me of one sport we talked about?
(Allow a few students to respond.)
"Fantastic! Before we finish, I want each of you to think of one new sport you’d like to explore further in Italian. We will talk about it in our next lesson.
Thank you all for your great participation today! Don’t forget your homework—write a short paragraph about your favourite sport using the vocabulary we've learned. See you next time!"
