Kia ora, Year 4! Today, we’re going to embark on an exciting adventure into the world of report writing. But before we start, let’s warm up our imaginations and get those creative juices flowing!

Activity: The Mystery Object

1. Get Ready! Gather around and pay attention because we have a mystery object right here in our classroom. It could be anything! Perhaps it’s a shiny rock, a strange-looking fruit, or an unusual tool.

2. Mystery Object Reveal: I will uncover the object, and I want you to take a good look at it. Observe every detail, the colour, shape, size, and any special features it has.

3. Think-Pair-Share:

   • Once you’ve taken a good look, turn to your partner and describe everything you can see about the object without saying what it is. Use your best adjectives!
   • After a minute, I’ll ask for a few volunteers to share their observations.

4. Discussion:

   • Now that we have described the mystery object, let’s think about how we can turn our observations into a report. What kind of information would we need to include to help someone understand this object completely?
   • Are there any questions you think we should answer?

After this engaging activity, we will dive into the elements that make a great report! We will learn how to structure our writing, what types of information to include, and how to present our findings clearly and effectively.
