Setting: A simple tent in a vast desert landscape. The sun rises in the background, casting a warm glow. Abraham is sitting outside his tent, lost in thought.
Abraham: (looking up at the sky) Lord, you have brought me through so many trials. You promised that I would be the father of many nations. But now, I am old, and the years have slipped away. Will my son Isaac carry your promise forward?
Isaac, a young man of about sixteen, enters with a small bundle of wood.
Isaac: (cheerful) Father! What are you thinking about out here?
Abraham: (smiling) My son, I was just reflecting on the promises of God. He has been faithful to our family.
As they talk, a cloud darkens the sky briefly, signalling a special moment.
God’s Voice: (echoing gently) Abraham!
Abraham looks shocked, but aware this is a Divine encounter.
Abraham: (kneeling) Here I am, O Lord. What do you ask of me?
God’s Voice: Take your son, your only son Isaac, and sacrifice him on a mountain that I will show you.
Isaac looks confused, glancing at his father.
Abraham: (wrestling with the command) Lord, you know that Isaac means everything to me. He is the fulfillment of your promise. How can I sacrifice him?
The voice becomes reassuring.
God’s Voice: Trust in My plan, Abraham. I have a purpose that will be revealed in time.
Transition to the next day. Abraham and Isaac are packing supplies for the journey.
Isaac: (curiously) Father, we have the wood and the fire, but where is the lamb for the sacrifice?
Abraham: (with a heavy heart) God will provide for Himself the lamb, my son.
Isaac pauses, sensing the weight of his father’s words.
Isaac: (concerned) Are you sure, Father? I’ve learned that sacrificing involves a lamb…
Abraham forces a smile, hoping to reassure Isaac.
Abraham: God knows our needs, Isaac. Trust that He has a plan.
They arrive at a mountain. Abraham lays the wood in a precise formation, his hands trembling.
Isaac: (pointing to the altar) Father, are we really going to do this?
Abraham: (gazing at Isaac) Yes, my son. This is what God has commanded.
Isaac, understanding the gravity of the situation, stands silently.
Isaac: (softly) I trust you, Father. I trust God.
Abraham embraces Isaac tightly, then steps back, tears streaming down his face.
Abraham reaches for a knife, trembling visibly as he prepares the sacrifice.
Isaac: (fearful) Father, please! What if God doesn’t intervene?
Abraham: (his voice trembling) I believe, Isaac. I believe that God will provide.
As he raises the knife, a voice echoes loudly.
God’s Voice: Abraham! Do not lay a hand on the boy.
Abraham freezes, the knife in mid-air. He looks around, searching for the source of the voice.
Abraham: (breathlessly) Lord?
God’s Voice: (gentle yet firm) Now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son from Me.
Abraham drops the knife, overwhelmed with relief.
In the bush nearby, a ram appears, caught by its horns.
Isaac: (pointing excitedly) Look! The ram!
Abraham walks over to the ram, tears of joy filling his eyes.
Abraham: (gratefully) God has provided a sacrifice in place of Isaac.
They both kneel together, giving thanks to God.
Isaac: (beaming) You were right, Father. God always provides.
Abraham: (smiling through tears) And because of our faith, we will carry His promise into the future.
The stage dims as they embrace and the lights fade. A single spotlight shines on a banner that reads, "Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see."
Curtains close as the audience reflects on the journey of faith taken by Abraham and Isaac.
