What is a Recount?

A recount tells us what happened.
It shares events in the order they happened.
Recounts can be written about personal experiences or stories.

Why Do We Recount?

To share our experiences with others.
To practice our writing skills.
To remember fun or important times in our lives.

Structure of a Recount

Beginning: Introduce what you are recounting.
Middle: Describe what happened in order.
End: Share your feelings or thoughts about the experience.

Using Time Words

Time words help us know when things happened.
Words like "first", "next", "then", and "finally" guide the reader.
Example: "First, I woke up early. Next, I had breakfast."

Example of a Recount

Title: My Day at the Zoo
Beginning: I went to the zoo with my family.
Middle: We saw lions, elephants, and birds. I took lots of pictures!
End: I felt happy to see all the animals.

How to Start a Recount

Start with “Once upon a time...” or “Last weekend...”
Use "I" to make it personal.
Example: "Last weekend, I went to my friend’s party."

Adding Details

Include what you saw, heard, and felt.
Make it interesting by adding your thoughts.
Example: “The lions roared, and I felt excited!”

Writing Practice

Write a short recount about what you did over the weekend.
Use the structure: Beginning, Middle, End.
Remember to include time words!

Share Your Recount

Pair up with a friend to share your story.
Listen carefully while your friend reads.
